Adventures Beyond the Classroom: Our Prep Residentials
- Prep School
Our Prep School residential trips are a highlight of the School year, offering students the chance to learn, grow and bond with their classmates outside of the traditional classroom setting. Read on to discover the highlights of each trip and the lasting memories created.
Year 4: A Sleepover to Remember
Year 4 students experienced a memorable sleepover in our boarding house. The evening was packed with excitement and began with a creative banana boat-making session (with delicious toppings!) followed by a thrilling scavenger hunt. After a barbecue supper and enjoying their banana creations, the students then settled into the dormitories. Once showered and changed, the evening was spent taking part in an array of relaxing activities: a movie room, table football, ping pong, board games or simply chatting with friends. After a good night's sleep, everyone enjoyed a delicious breakfast feast before starting the final day of activities. The sleepover was a wonderful evening filled with bundles of joy and laughter, new friends were made, existing connections were strengthened and many special memories were created.
Year 5: Khao Kheow Open Zoo Adventure
Year 5 enjoyed a fun-filled two-day residential trip to Khao Kheow Open Zoo. The students explored animal habitats and learned about animal care, with exciting opportunities to feed the penguins, turtles, rhinos and of course paid a visit to the famous (and adorable) hippo, Moo Deng. Beyond animal encounters, the trip focused on environmental awareness, with the students getting involved in a seeding project to help preserve the forest and natural environment. They also created nests for the bird aviary using natural materials developing their awareness of the world around them. Everyone showed excellent levels of resilience when faced with the zipline challenge and later enjoyed an exciting night safari, which gave them the opportunity to observe some of the nocturnal inhabitants of the zoo. For many, this was their first night away from home and it was fantastic to see them treating each other with kindness, enjoying themselves and showing respect to our guides and other members of the public. This trip definitely enabled our students to develop their independence and organisational skills, all while building positive memories with their friends.
Year 6: Beach Adventures and Underwater Exploration
Year 6 students enjoyed an incredible residential trip to Sai Kaew Beach in Sattahip. Their adventure began with a meaningful beach cleanup, demonstrating their commitment to environmental care and responsibility. After enjoying some free time on the pristine beach and a lunch filled with monkey sightings, the group settled into a beautiful beachside resort. The afternoon was spent relaxing and playing in the pool, followed by a delicious dinner at an oceanfront restaurant. With full bellies and tired eyes, the students returned to the resort for a well-deserved rest. The final day featured a boat trip from Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya, where they set off on a boat trip into the open sea. After a scenic 45-minute boat ride, they had the chance to snorkel in clear blue waters, observing a variety of colourful fish and taking thrilling jumps into the ocean. By the time the boats returned, there were plenty of sleepy but happy students ready to head back to School, marking the end of an incredible experience.
Year 7: Immersed in Thai Culture, History and the Arts
Our Year 7 students embarked on an unforgettable journey, immersing themselves in Thai culture, history and the arts. Over two days, they explored the Ancient City, where they learned about Thai history and culture through its stunning replicas of famous landmarks and traditional houses. They also took part in hands-on cultural activities, including weaving, Thai dance and an exciting Muay Thai demonstration. The art segment featured a photography workshop with Kars Tuinder, a Talad Noi street art tour, and visits to MOCA and River City galleries, where students created art appreciation videos. Evenings were packed with fun—a general knowledge quiz and a lively student-run disco (special thanks to Mick and Summer for keeping the dance floor buzzing) on the first night, and dinner and bowling at Mega Bangna on the second. On the final day, after tidying up and enjoying breakfast, the group made a thrilling stop at Dream World for some adrenaline-fueled fun before returning to School. Throughout the trip, students demonstrated exemplary behaviour, challenged themselves and showcased fantastic collaboration, making it a truly memorable experience for all.
Year 8: iCamp Kanchanaburi
Year 8 enjoyed a four-day adventure at iCamp in Kanchanaburi. Being our oldest Prep students, the trip was also the longest and was packed with activities, starting with team building and water games, followed by an evening campfire with marshmallow roasting (is it really camping if s'mores weren't involved!?). Day two focused on history, with the students learning about the Bridge on the River Kwai and the "Death Railway," which included a visit to the war cemetery. After a lunch overlooking the bridge, all the students put on their life jackets and were soaked wet on the river and enjoyed waterslides and doughnut rides. The action continued on day three with ziplining and wall climbing in the morning, followed by a visit to the Duang Prateep orphanage in the afternoon. At the orphanage, they helped with painting, soap making, cupcake decorating and bracelet making. A real highlight was being able to play traditional Thai games and dancing with the orphans on their return from school. The final day was all about survival skills: shelter making and building a fire to make popcorn before returning home. It was a busy, fun-filled week that created lasting memories for all.
