The arts are highly valued at Rugby School Thailand and in the Prep School our pupils participate in engaging lessons designed to develop confidence in strong technical skills and a passion for creating. Art is essential in teaching pupils how to interpret and use the visual information that surrounds us every day. We learn problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as developing a heightened cultural awareness reflecting the diverse society and world we live in.
Our art curriculum is a challenging blend of painting, drawing, printmaking, 3D sculpture including clay, digital media and collage. We visit galleries and go sketching and painting on location, as well as curating our own exhibitions for family, friends and the public to showcase our fantastic work. This provides a broad arts education, preparing pupils for success in their advanced studies as they progress through to the Senior School.
We have many highly talented pupils here in our school – and those with a particular flair, or fluency, for art & design are provided with challenging tasks in class, as well as individual opportunities, to develop their talents. We have high expectations for all pupils to work creatively and with originality. It is the intention of the department to promote the belief that excellence is about pupils striving to achieve more than what was initially asked of them, and to do so independently wherever possible or appropriate.
