We have capacity for 210 boarding students at the School and offer lots of flexibility with boarding options.

Approximately 25% of boarders opt for full-time (up to 7 nights a week), 65% board weekly (up to 5 nights a week) and 10% choose the part-time programme (up to 3 nights a week).

45% are international boarders and the other 55% are Thai students who mainly board weekly (5 nights) from Bangkok, to escape the traffic and enjoy the outdoor lifestyle.

Boarders at Rugby School Thailand are 10 to 18 years old.

We have three state-of-the-art, award-winning boarding houses. The senior girls (aged 13 to 18) house is called Rupert Brooke, the senior boys (aged 13 to 18) house is called School House and the ‘junior house’ (aged 10 to 12) called Marshall is home for boys and girls sleeping in separate, designated areas of the house.

Three options are available to suit families' needs. Full Boarding (up to 7 nights a week), Weekly Boarding (up to 5 nights) and Part Boarding (up to 3 nights). All three options can be discussed with Houseparents and the Director of Boarding to see what suits you best.

Wake up around 6.45am and get ready for School. Some boarders choose to do some work, sport, fitness or music before School starts. Have a big breakfast with friends in our Dining Hall. The normal School day starts around 8am and lasts until 6pm. After the normal School day there is supper together and then time to choose between study, play, sport, fitness, music etc. In Years 9 and above, boarders all have structured work time after 8pm before bedtime routines begin depending on age and stage. 

Year 6, 7 and 8 boarders have a slightly different, age-appropriate schedule. The key difference is that they have enriching activities from 6.30-7.30pm each evening, and an earlier bedtime which involves quiet reading from 8.45pm and lights out at 9pm.

A typical weekend is enjoying the activities of the Saturday Enrichment programme on Saturday morning; this could be anything from rock climbing to an art class. On Saturday afternoon there is a shopping trip and on Sunday there is always a fun and exciting exursion / event to enjoy, from wakeboarding to pizza making, to laser tag, and everything in between.

Usually around 50, but it depends on sporting fixtures and other events.

Boarders leave School at the end of each term for the longer School holidays and for half term holidays. We also have one ‘Exeat’ per half term, during which time most boarders see family and friends away from School but others may choose to remain on campus.

It’s a long weekend holiday where the school is closed, which occurs twice a term (once per half term).

Usually, boarders return the evening before lessons resume, between 6pm and 8pm. However, there is an option to arrive early in the morning on the day lessons resume, by arrangement with the Houseparent.

You may wish to arrange a weekly call or students can ask to call home at any time. The Houseparent is always available to meet or talk with parents too.

Keeping in touch with your child while they are boarding is really important for most families, and we actively encourage it. 

Senior boarders have access to their phones most of the time in the house. The Prep boarders have restricted access to their personal devices (see below), but can always ask to use them to call home. Plus there is a landline and house mobile for outgoing and incoming calls. The Houseparents are always available for parents to contact, too.

Depending on age, we allow limited use of phones and electrical devices, unless they are needed for School work. Prep students have two device nights a week, whereas the Senior students have more freedom. However, one of the big advantages of boarding is the community of people, so boarding students tend to rely less on phones and devices for social interactions and entertainment, and instead enjoy the company of their peers.

This is age-dependent, starting from 8.30pm through to 10.15pm. Bed times are stage-appropriate and tailored to ensure good sleep hygiene and positive personal routines.
