SEASAC - What it means for RST

A few weeks ago, we were delighted to share the news that Rugby School Thailand has been accepted as the newest member of SEASAC. For many in our community, this may seem like just another acronym, but for our School activities programme, this is the gold standard. 

SEASAC is a small and prestigious group of schools in South East Asia, who share a common goal in uniting communities to celebrate students through sport, the arts and MUN. The opportunities for students to travel to new countries, build friendships and develop their global mindedness, make this an opportunity we are truly proud to offer. 

Two years ago, RST moved its activities programme to be across 4 seasons, which aligns with SEASAC and many other large conferences across the region, positioning us for this opportunity in advance. We have also been strategically developing a broader range of activities which align with this conference. As we continue to grow and develop these programmes, RST will become a significant contributor to the SEASAC conference.

SEASAC connects us to a select group of 16 schools, only five of which are in Thailand.

Of those five, RST is the only school outside Bangkok.

What does being in SEASAC mean?

The 16 schools from SEASAC are broadly split into three key regions; Singapore, Thailand and the rest of SEA. Activities within the conference are shared between the three regions on a three year rotation, ensuring events move each year and offer both opportunities to compete at home and abroad. 

SEASAC events are designed for the U19 age group and offer the highest level of competition for school sport in the region. All SEASAC events are split across three seasons as you can see below:

  • Season 1- Football, Volleyball, Cross Country, Golf
  • Season 2- Basketball, Tennis, Rugby, Touch, Arts
  • Season 3- Softball, Badminton, Swimming, Gymnastics, MUN

As we approach our first year in the conference, coaches of U19 programmes will put a tremendous focus on SEASAC participation so we meet the expectations associated with our place in the conference (80% attendance at events). 

We are really excited for what the future holds as we move into 2026/27 as a part of SEASAC, and will continue to share more information about the competitions as we approach the summer break.
